Hong Kong Exchange Day 2

Day 2 :

Today is the day that we embark our journey to explore Hong Kong! We went to 3 different places in Hong Kong which are, Kowloon Bay, Kwun Tong and Hang Hau.

When we reached Kowloon Bay, the environment of the shopping center make us feel as if we are still in Singapore because sad to say that shopping centers are almost the same in terms of shops that they have as well as the basic layout of the shopping mall.

After which we went to Kwun Tong, which has more of a Hong Kong feel as compared to Kowloon Bay. This is the picture how Kwun Tong street is like.
Kwun Tong Street
After exploring Kwun Tong, we felt that Kwun Tong feels more like an industrial area rather than a street market.  Also, one of the shopping building looks like Sim Lim square (in terms of the things they sold), but I didn't take note what's the building name. It sells electronic product and on the top floor .... Well I guess you got to explore yourself to see what they are selling.

Last but not least, we went to Hang Hau, the place where we have to go because that's where we will be taking the mini bus back to school. The mission at Hang Hau was to search for PILLOWS! That's because we really need pillows badly after experiencing one night without it.

Since there are 3 to 4 different shopping malls in Hang Hau, we spend a few hours to hunt down for cheap pillow. And we got it at HKD$69 (~SGD $11) which is quite cheap as compared to those pillow which sells at SGD$20 or even more!

With that, we ended out second day in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Exchange Day 1

This is my first time that I went to Hong Kong and I was so excited to see how's the lifestyle, the environment as well as the people in Hong Kong are like as compared to the Hong Kong drama. When I reached the Hong Kong airport, I was unable to differentiate Hong Kong and Singapore yet since the environment are quite similar to Singapore. However, the differentiation point occurs to me when they start to speak in Cantonese which I don't really understand a single Cantonese in my life. (How I wish that there are subtitles appearing at the bottom on my view so that I can understand what they are talking about)

When I reached the airport, the employees are quite helpful when I approached them for help. With this, I successfully reached HKUST via red taxi (HK$280). When I first step upon HKUST, the view of the school was quite magnificent and the so called central forum was huge with high and transparent ceiling. I try to guide myself to Hall VI with the help of the signs along the way and I reached Hall VI successfully and my body was covered with sweat since the weather was extremely hot on that day when I arrived.

When I reached the Hall, I realize that I can only checked-in after 2pm thus I have 3 hours to spare so I decide to tour around the school and familiarize with the school environment as well as having my first meal in Hong Kong. The school is quite comprehensive in terms of catering to the student who stay in school as there are supermarket, barber shop, banks, various restaurants as well as co-op shops.

After I did my checked in at around 2.30PM, I settle down in my room and unpacked all my stuff. Later at night other two of my course mates have arrive as well and we take a tour around the school to find out where is the nearest bus-stop so that we can go for our mini tour on the very next day.

Well I didn't took any photo on day 1, so no picture for this post

2nd year of my studies

Finally, I have finished my first 2 years of my studies, tentatively, I have one more year to go, only if I passed all my modules hahaha. At first when I step into this school of mine, I felt that results are very important to student, however, this kind of thoughts have literally destroy the main purpose of studying, which is learning things that interest us.

I fully aware the importance of CAPs and results that's because it can open up opportunities for us landing for our first job or even internship or even better, scholarship. Of course being able to get those opportunities are indeed beneficial to us especially to poor students or students who are seeking opportunities for landing on their dream job.

In school, I have friends who strive to achieve higher CAPs and also some friends who wants to graduate in a shorter period of time so that they can start to find jobs and earn income for their family or themselves. These are certainly no good or wrong answer to the path they choose, that's because life is not like exams, where there is only one absolute answer. In life, anything you do, anything you choose, if the decision derive from your inner heart, inner thoughts, then follow it, don't leave any regret behind.

Pressure, pressure and pressure are certainly unavoidable, especially in university where the competition is much hard then in Junior Collage or Polytechnic. With such competition, one of the main objective that students should aim for are slowly being blurred away. The main objective that has been blurred away is the purpose of studying, while I mean the true purpose of study.

The enjoyment of studying, the excitement of studying has been generally transform into a negative force which is call stress. Although having stress is certainly good as it help us to strive harder but the stress that students are currently having now isn't the stress to motivate them to learn things in a positive way but instead, a way to just score higher result.

I fully understand what it really meant to study in this semester, which is able to digest whatever we learn in a way which is fun and able to fully capture the core of what the module is teaching. Certainly, mistakes happen in every part and parcel of our life, it happen in exams as well. Thus, making mistake is unavoidable, however, understanding where we gone wrong is necessary so that we can learn from our mistake.

For student out there, if you happen to read this, I am very sorry for my language, since my English is not really that good. But what I hope you can gain from this is to understand the main purpose of studying and what you are going to achieve at the end of the day. Result is not everything, Certificate is also not everything, the most important thing for us is knowledge, the knowledge that we have interest in.
