What's RSS?

RSS (most commonly expanded as Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. RSS feeds can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader", or "aggregator", which can be web-based, desktop-based, or mobile-device-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering into the reader the feed's URI or by clicking a feed icon in a web browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds. RSS allows users to avoid manually inspecting all of the websites they are interested in, and instead subscribe to websites such that all new content is pushed onto their browsers when it becomes available.

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats. Although RSS formats have evolved from as early as March 1999, it was between 2005 and 2006 when RSS gained widespread use, and the icon was decided upon by several major Web browsers.

Over the years in my life ever since I stepped into the IT (Information Technology) world, my life simply revolves around computer. So the projects that I have done are all related to IT. Some of it are school projects while some of it are done during my leisure time.

Element Destiny

Element Destiny is a project that I have done during my leisure time during my second year in my studies in Nanyang polytechnic. The reason that I created this flash is because I wanted to try and see how I can use my flash skills to create a simple animation. I was hard at first as I have to learn some of the animation movement and design through internet and the end product did not seems as good as those professionals, but I am quite happy with it as I am able to come out with a simple animation and character design without much guidance.

PlanetKY Mashup Application (VENews)

Every programmer wish is to come out with a useful application which can benefits others, well in this Mashup application for Imagine Cup competition, my team, PlanetKY, consist of Wen Bin and me, have come out with the idea of plotting the news onto the virtual earth, so that people can glance through the related environmental news through the map without having much effort to find out the location of the incident.

This application had won us a second place(tied) in Mashup category in Imagine cup 2009(Click here for more information). It was definitely a surprise to us where our application (VENews) can be recognize by other people. Our application has been taken own due to the closure of Popfly website. So you can view how our application works in the video above.

E-commerce Website (Games)

This is the first PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) plus database, website that I have ever created. For now I still unable to show you the actual website yet since I have yet to find a place to upload it. Meanwhile the above can serve as a design of my first e-commerce website.

This website called "ReCreation", is a name that pops up in my mind when I start working on this project. Then I slowly went into colors, basically I do not have much designing experience and not a pro in design, so I have to choose a safe color to go with. So, in the end, I choose Black and white as the main color for this website.

After that, I have to choose what kind of things should I sell for this e-commerce website. After all the thinking and suggestion from my friends, I decided to go for games, an e-commerce website that sells games. The reason why I choose this is because I like games, playing games is just part of my life. So choosing something which I had interest in bring me much more comfort when doing this project, rather then choosing something which I don't like or have no interest in.

Basic Introduction

Hi my name is Yeo Ken Long James, currently serving National Service (NS) as a National Service Inspector in Singapore Police Force (SPF). Basically I left a few months more before I ORD (Operational Ready Date), which also means I have served finish my 2 years of National Service.

I am currently a diploma holder in Multimedia and Infocommunication Technology studied at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and after I finish serving my National Service, I will pursue my studies in National University of Singapore (NUS), major in Information system.

What's the meaning of "AmpDreams"?

"AmpDreams" is a short form of Amplify Dream. The reason why I named this website as AmpDream is because I want to dream big! Because in current society, we have restricted our dreams even before we start working on it. That because the society is cruel, if you cannot do it means you cannot do it. But that's so wrong! Why restrict yourself in your own dream. If you can't fight for your own dream, then you might as well live as a robot rather then a human with dreams.

So that's why I named this website as "AmpDream" is to remind myself and the others who have came to this website that even in this reality world, dream can still be existed, dream can still be pursue no matter when and where. If you have the will to do it, then you will.

But you must know that not every dream come true, but at least, you have fought for your dream! - James (myself)

Why I use Blogger for my website?

The reason why I use blogger for my website is because I have yet to find a suitable web-host to host my website. Previously, I have uploaded my website to a free hosting server, but it did not ended up well. Since it's a free web-host, so I have nothing to complain about. So now I will carefully looked for a good a cheap web host to host my website so that I can try adding more functions to make my website more interesting an interactive.

So in the meantime, I will use blogger as a platform to host my website and I using quite a unique way to do it since blogger does not allow user to upload more than 1 web page. I guess many people might used this method too, which is creating a post which are relevant to each of the web page.

Then some people asked, why not use iFrame, it's much better and faster as to compared to using a tedious method of creating post for each web page. My answer to this is simple, is because when I got my own web hosting site, I can directly copy and paste the entire thing to the web host which is faster compared to iFrame method!

The mascot that I used...

The picture on the left is the mascot that I will be using for AmpDreams website. The main reason why I used this as the mascot for AmpDreams is because this character is the first character that I have ever design (element destiny). Secondly, I used this character as my mascot because I find it looks like me, except that I don't have grey hair. Last but not least, I like this character very much, much more than the other character that I have created in element destiny.

Transformation of AmpDreams

Off course I want to make AmpDreams more than just my personal website, in fact, I am thinking of making it a social website where people can share their views about their dreams with each other through the internet. The reason why I want to create such a website is because I want people to know that you must be proud of what your dream is, and also dream big! You live once and what's the point of hiding your dream and throw it in one corner? Share your dreams with other, who knows you might get something interesting in return where someone might guide you to your dreams and make it come true!

I want people to feel that not all dreams are impossible to come true, in fact, everyday there are people out there are trying their very best to make make their dream come true and some even succeeded. So sharing your dream with others might be the first step of making your dream come true. That's why I always wanted to create such a website to encourage people to dream BIG!
