Rookies' Diary / 新兵日記

《新兵日記》節目標誌

A few months ago, I started watching this Taiwan drama called 'Rookies' Dairy (新兵日記 / Xin Bing Ri Ji). This drama shows about Taiwan BMT which lasted for 36 days where new recruits go for their Basic Military Training. During the 36 days of training in BMT, Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang is going to transform a group of rookies from oddball civilians to disciplined soldiers.

This drama is super funny because you can find all sorts of funny recruits acting blur or acting funny during the training. I laugh until my stomach pain through out the series (the series is not completed yet though).

Not only funny as I mentioned but this drama also shows how people's feeling changed in the process of their training in BMT. At first those recruits, Corporals and Sergeants do not really like/appreciate how Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang conduct his training for the recruits as he was strict and go against the rule book of training recruits.

But as the times goes by, Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang passion saw by the recruits, Corporals and Sergeants. Together, the recruits even help Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang out when he is in trouble due to some conflict with gangsters due to money lending problem caused by his father.

After the incident, the captain decided to used his traditional method to train up all these recruits before they passed out from BMT.

Are all the recruits able to pass their physical test in BMT? We shall find out in the final episode of Rookies' Diary.

Woodland Point

Woodlands Point

Today as usual, I went for my 5km run in the evening. But something special is that I change the route a little so that I can help my brother buy his dinner at Woodland Point, a place where I used to hang out at during my secondary school days with my classmates.

I remember that place was a place where we hang out almost everyday after school to play lan and Yu-Gi-Oh card game. That's the place we close up our friendship bond with other student in our school as we always hang out at that place to play game. That's the place where I would never ever forget in my life.

Today I went back to that place again, I help my brother to buy his dinner after I completed my 5km run. I took a walk around that place and to my surprise, the place hasn't changed much even though I didn't went there for quite a few years.

The McDonald still there, the Lan shop still there and some random shop still there but the Kopitiam at the second floor has moved away and is now currently empty.

I still remember that we always hang out at the McDonald second floor to play our card games, and in order not to get kick out by the McDonald staff, we bought a drink just for the sake to stay at that place to play our card game. Come to think of it, it's quite funny actually lol...

Then after playing card game, we will go straight down to the Lan shop and play the most popular game during that time which is, counter-strike. The price is $2 - $2.50 per hour if I remember correctly.

Think I will find someday, someday to get my secondary school friends to hang out there again... Well hope I can find some time, as soon as possible :)

Life

Today I feel like talking about life in general. So, basically what is life? Some people might say life is for love, some might say life is money and some would even say that life is the status you have.

Well they are correct because life is yours, so you can choose what you want to be and how you control your life, no one can manipulate you unless you made your life being manipulate.

Why I started this topic of "Life" is because of my friends. My friends around me have grown and lived in their own life some of them are happy with it but some of them are not. So I was curious about why they are happy/unhappy with their life. So I start talking to those who are unhappy with their life, and they stated that they couldn't achieved what they want in terms of academics, money and status.

I understand their feelings (in terms of academic) because I had that feeling during the past when I was studying but as the time goes by the feeling started to fade away, which I do not really know why, probably is because I have achieved what I have expected of myself.

After talking to those who are unhappy with life, I had the feeling that those who are happy with their life are probably the ones who are quite successful in their achievements. But it was quite unexpected after I talked to them as most of them are just living a simple life without much extraordinary achievement.

But they are happy...

So I was quite curious on why they are happy with their life, and they replied to me that living simple is quite good actually because you do not need to handle too much stress and without having your work taking up too much of your personal time where you can spend more time with your family and the love ones.

Each people have different goals in their life I guess, but what this lesson taught me is that sometimes in life you may face failure or success, but all these failure and success eventually came from ourselves. That's because we, ourselves are the ones who set the standard in what we are going to achieve in our life in order to be happy or rather satisfied with it.

Let me give you an example...

Student A is an ace student, who always achieved excellent grades in all of his subject, while Student B is labeled as a below average student, who always failed all his subjects even though he tried to study hard. But one day, when they got back their exam paper, Student A was sad because even though he still getting As in all of his subjects but his total mark dropped by 2% while Student B was delighted because he managed to get a pass in one of his paper but overall he still did quite badly and got retained for a year because of that. So Student A was curious on why Student B was so happy when he know he got retained for a year. Student B replied: "Because I have met my target of getting at least one subject pass at the end of the year examination". Student A wasn't really satisfied with Student B's reply because he find it ridiculous that he can be happy with just that.

So Student A went to look for their homeroom teacher and talk to him about Student B's situation. The teacher smiled at Student A and said this: "I am very happy with Student B's achievement although he required to retain for a year but I can see the drive in him." Student A still don't quite understand on why he is so happy? So the teacher gave student A the answer that he needs, the teacher said that: " Each of us measure our achievement/success in a different manner, some of them want to break their own personal record by achieving better results but others may just want to prove themselves that they can achieve what they want if they worked hard for it. In the end, is your own measurement that counts and not what other thinks. If you truly believe that you have succeed, then you have succeed." Student A got the idea of what it means of achieving the so-called "success" in life, it's all basically in yourselves, the standard that you have set for yourself, which is also known as the

standard of success.

So what I trying to say is that life is yours, you can make your own life complicated or you can just live with a simple life, in the end, you are the one who decide what to do with your life, not others.

Flipped

Synopsis:
When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it's love. Bryce isn't so sure. Beginning that day, and for the next six years, young Bryce (Callan McAuliffe) does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm's length...which isn't easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. Smart, dreamy, independent and willing to stand up for what she believes in, Juli (Madeline Carroll) is different from anyone else he knows and, frankly, it's a little overwhelming. What's a guy supposed to do when a girl tells him his hair smells like watermelon or wants him to sit in a tree for the spectacular view? There's just no telling what Juli will do next, and Bryce is one guy who'd rather be safe than sorry. Though disappointed by Bryce's unwillingness to see things her way, or even to see the things in life she finds most meaningful, Juli continues to give her potential dreamboat the benefit of the doubt. Until those doubts stack up so high that she finally thinks maybe she was wrong about him. It's just about the same time Bryce starts to think maybe he was wrong about her, too. But is he too late? The coming-of-age romantic comedy "Flipped," from director Rob Reiner, takes Bryce and Juli from Grade School to Junior High, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are--and who they are to each other. -- (C) Warner Bros.

This movie is quite nice in the sense that, instead of the guy taking initiative to know the girl, the girl made the first move. With all sorts of negative impact between them, in the end they're still together.... Watch it, it's nice :)

3rd Day of Chinese Rabbit Year!

I met up with my poly cliques at City hall yesterday. At first we want to go for Kbox as wei xiong have the urge to sing but due to the price and the duration, the option was erased. So we decided to walk to Clark Quay for dinner.

After our dinner, we went to a random pub where it sell Singapore Sling Shots, since wei xiong recommended it so we give it a try. I ordered a mild alcoholic drink compared to Roger and Wei Xiong cause I am a newbie :) Wei Xiong order shots! which is the pure thingy and I tried it and it feels like there's fire burning in your throat.

But after all the experience is quite fun as this is the first time that we went to pub together and I did not really expect Roger/Wei Xiong suggest to go pub.

Below is the picture of what we have drank. From left to right: Roger's drink, Wei Xiong drink and mine :)

The sad thing is I have to go to work now :(

Day 2 of Chinese Rabbit Year

Day 2 of Chinese Rabbit Year, my brother and I meet up with our cousins for dinner and KTV session at Causeway Point/ Woodlands Civic Center. We went to Siam Kitchen for our dinner. It was my first time going to Siam Kitchen for dinner and the food was not as bad as I thought. Since it was our first(my brother and I) going out with our cousins (Father's side), so we are a quite quiet in front of them.

After the dinner, we went to KTV at Woodlands Civic Center, located at the 6th floor. I didn't even know that there's a KTV at Woodland Civic Center, so I just blindly follow them. The room is quite alright for the size of 11 people, and we started singing. I sang around 5 to 6 songs if I remember correctly. All of my cousin sang very good, is like singer standard. I was like "WOW, they sang so well".

Well at the end, my brother and I have to leave early since I have work tomorrow. The experience was quite good, much better than I anticipated. So, well this marks my end of my second day of Chinese Rabbit Year!

Last but not least, 新年快樂!

First Day of Chinese New Year

The first day of Chinese New Year is over, at least the event for the day is over, I supposed. Today is quite a tiring day for me because I came back home from work at around 10am ++, then after that, I went to my grandma house for visiting. At that time, my head was really heavy cause I do not have enough sleep. But still I have to endure it cause Chinese New Year is a once in a year thing.

After that my cousins came to my house for Chinese New Year celebration. Well everything is all the same as the previous years for Chinese New Year celebration. Nothing much different.... But still, it is a joyous occasion for every people who celebrate Chinese New Year as this days marks that we are a year older and also a day where all our relatives gets to gather and have a dinner/lunch and a chit chat session.

Also one thing that I find it weird was that I don't really care about the content inside the red packet I received compared to the previous 22 years of Chinese New Year. I don't know why, but I just received it as a token from the elder, that's all. Previously, I care about the money inside :) but now, I just don't have the thrill to open red packet any more. Well I think I getting older, or maybe become stupid hahaha.

Whether I become older or stupid, I don't know. But what I know is that, it's great to have a celebration with family and relatives.

Last but not least...

Today is Chinese New Year Eve, the last day of Tiger year! This also marks my last Chinese New Year celebration before I ORD! I am very very HAPPY!

But this year is a bit special compared to the previous year because this year CNY eve, that's because I have to go work.... Well may be a memorable one but it can be quite tiring because tomorrow is the first day of Chinese New Year and I will coming back in the morning. So the first thing that I might do is to sleep... hahaha....

But really no choice man, I will be dead tired once I come back home tomorrow in the morning. Hope I can endure the tiredness if not I might sleep for the whole day.

Tonight I will be having my reunion dinner with my relatives then after that, I will be heading straight to work. This year I will be doing my countdown at my workplace.

Last but not least, Happy Chinese Rabbit Year!
