FoC

This week was a fantastic week for me because I attended quite a number of great events and made quite a number of new friends.

The first event I went was FoC, Freshman orientation camp (School of Computing), Organize by our seniors. Actually, I do not have the intention of joining this camp because I have things going on on the 8th June. Also, I thought the orientation camp would be like those I have attended during my poly days where everything was dry and not fun at all.... But after much thoughts and my friend, Roger Wong, also joining this camp, then I said to myself, "Why not? Just join and make new friends!". So I decided to sign up for this camp.

The first day of the camp really changes my thoughts base on my previous experience of the orientation camp that I have attended. It was really fun and interesting. I can see all the Orientation Group Leaders were very enthusiastic about this camp and my group member as well, we were are hyped up in each and every game we played. I still remember what my OGL said to us during the first day of our camp, "Don't play to win, let's just have fun!".

So no matter what games we played, we seldom win. I still remember the Running Man game, we were appointed as the mission team where we have to hide away from the seekers and at the same time, we have to do our mission in order to eliminate the seekers. The first round of the game, we decided to stick together as a team because we were still unfamiliar with the place and also try to protect the girls. But in the end, in less than 10 mins, all of us got caught.

But instead of reprimanding each other, we had a great laugh. The other group leaders (including ours) and the committee members told us that we were the fastest team to get caught in this game. So with that, we were given another chance to play again and this time we decided to split up in order to make this game last longer, if not a bit malu mah. But in the end, we all got caught again :)

The second day we played amazing race, where we joint with another group, which is bloo, in this amazing race game. But at that time, I was really tired, I just follow the group to complete the mission given to us, like a dead zombie.

But after we reached Sentosa, I feel refreshed again. We started playing all sorts of games. After which, Jin Hui and me decided to throw all our OG members into the sea (Since Li Ru suggested it). So we decided to throw Li Ru first since she suggested it, followed by Clovis (He throw himself), Wing, Fiona and then Jin Xiang.

After that we went to bathe and then Wing suddenly did a confession to us, she told us that she's a fake freshie!!! We were like... NO WAY!!!! Cause the way she acted, was totally like a freshman. None of us suspected her as a fake freshie. Worse come to worse was that she is a year 4 student! WOW!!!!! Surprise right? She felt guilty about it that's why she decided to told us on the second day, and also some of the fake freshie had already revealed themselves and the respond wasn't that good.

But for us, this looks great and unbelievable because this is our first time experiencing this kind of event. Instead of having negative respond, we were like, "Hey let's try that next year to the freshie!". We don't get mad at that because it doesn't matter that you are a freshie or a senior, the most important thing is to be happy and make more new friends.

But then, after having dinner with my OG, I had to leave because I have something on the next day :(

But then, I appeared again on the 8th June evening. It was the time where we played the SP (Secret Pal) game. The secret pal game was basically meeting the opposite sex from the other groups and that person will be your secret pal, you will only know their real identity during the finale where we get to eat dinner together, exchange present and know each other more.

The orientation camp concluded with Cookie Monster, which is my group and the no.1 group in this orientation camp..... All other teams also did well too in this camp and all left home with prizes too. This camp was certainly fun but it's a pity that I missed part of it due to some involvement in something. But overall, it's a great camp!

I am Back!

Finally, I am back to blogging!

Left 11 days to my ORD date! Well it feels great to know that I going to start my new phrase of life soon but also, feel a bit sad because the people that I have trained with during BMT and OCT, also people whom I have worked with for a year, I have to say goodbye to them soon.... All the memories created are truly wonderful, because of that, I will not forget my NS life after I ORD even ROD :)

During my long leave before I ORD, I watched a lot of Korean Drama/Variety show, which my brother introduced. At first, only one variety show attracts me which was "We Got Married season 2", which shows about the marriage life of a random chosen celebrities couple. The reason why is because, I have watched the season 1 of "We Got Married" before, that's why I do not mind watching the season 2 of the show. But after a while, I was influence by my brother to watch another variety show, Running Man.

After I started watching the first episode of Running Man, it totally made me addicted to it. I kept on watching and watching..... Basically Running Man is an outdoor game show hosted by the Korean Nation MC, Mr. Yoo Jae Suk, follow by the long term team member, Kim Jong Koon, Song Jihyo, HaHa, Gary, Guan Suk, Suk Jin and Jong Ki (left the show due to filming of drama). Every week, there will be one or two guest celebrities joining the game show along with the team member. Each time the team wins a game, they will be awarded with a Running Ball, which gives them a chance to escape from punishment. You will never get sick of this show because they have wide variety of games involved throughout this show.

After which, I also watch another variety show hosted by Nation MC, Mr.Yoo Jae Suk, which is Family Outing Season 1. The show is a two day and one night show split into two episodes. The show is a two day and one night show split into two episodes. In the first episode, it starts with a call from Yu Jae-suk, the permanent MC on the show, telling the rest of the family where the next location is. Each member arrives along with the episode's guest, greeted by Yu Jae-suk who is usually waiting in front of the town hall or a waiting shed. The guest is then given a map to follow to the house that they will be staying in. Once they reach the house, they send off the owners on their vacation and look over the list of chores that the house owners have left behind for them to complete. After this, they begin with the first chore. While completing this chore a game is played in which the family splits up into two teams. After completing the first chore they either go on to the next chore or go to prepare dinner. When preparing dinner, the family splits up the duties once again.
After dinner, the Family plays games for early morning chores. Before Park Ye-jin and Lee Chun-hee's departure, the sleeping arrangements are chosen by having a contest after dinner. Lee Hyo-ri and Park Ye-jin would rank the men in the family from first, as the most desirable, to last (1 to 6 or 7 if there are two male guests) based on how well they perform in the day and the contest. After which the guys rank the girls. Recently, the ranking activities has been replaced with games to figure who will be doing the late-night or early-morning chores. Usually 1 person is chosen, whether losing as a group or an individual game then choosing the rest, to make a total of 3 people. The first episode usually ends in the middle of the night's activity.
The second episode begins with the continuation of the night's activity. After the rankings or the nighttime chores, the Family goes to bed. They usually sleep around midnight or later, because of the night activities or because they talk so much before going to sleep. The next morning the show's producer wakes up Yu Jae-suk and gives him the instructions for the Wake Up Mission. Initially, the Wake Up Mission was in the form of a quiz but later on was changed into more physical games. Whoever loses this game, has to make breakfast for the family. The loser then picks one to sometimes three people to make the breakfast with him/her. While they make breakfast, the rest of the Family either goes back to sleep, or completes another chore. The people that makes the breakfast gets to choose what they want to cook. Most of the time, the process of making breakfast takes a long time so it will be at least noon or later when the family members eat breakfast. After breakfast, the Family does the remaining chores on the list left by the owners. While completing the final chores, another game is played. After finishing the chores the owners of the house return and the Family leaves. A preview of the next week's episode and guest/s is shown at the end of the episode.
In later episodes, half of the night's activity aired before preparing dinner, afterwards going back in time (3–4 hours) to prepare dinner, with the episode ending at dinner. The second episode still begins with the continuation of the night's activity, which usually involves the selection of who will be doing the early-morning chores. Then those people are shown doing the chore before the Wake Up Mission is played. Afterwards, breakfast is made and a shot of the "Family" is shown before the preview of the next week's episode. This has virtually eliminated the actually owners involvement with the family, other than handing the house over to the Family at the beginning. (From wikipedia)

Well, that's where I gonna end my blog for now! Cya!

Just a small chat with my brother

My brother had finished his final paper in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, one of the 5 polytechnic in Singapore. He is in high spirit when he came back home and I can see that he had done quite well in his examination, I guess lol.

He study Biomedical Science and he wanted to be a doctor in the future. But after talking to him about being a doctor, I found out that he intend to go overseas to study as it is difficult for him to continue his degree studies in Medicine in local university as the cut off point is high and usually those "high end courses" like Law and Medicine, are probably given to 'A' level student with excellent results, but there are local polytechnic students get accepted in those course too, but it's quite rare.

I can see that my brother is passion about being a doctor. He already planned out his route and plan to go to Australia, Melbourne University to purse his studies after serving his National Service.

I hope he can be a great doctor and at least he know what he is pursuing, unlike me, I still haven't really decide which occupation that I am going to become after I graduate from NUS. Although I have 4 years for me to decide but 4 years say long also not long, say short also not short. But when the time comes, it's all about my decision and the choice, I had to make when I graduate no matter what.

Rookies' Diary / 新兵日記

《新兵日記》節目標誌

A few months ago, I started watching this Taiwan drama called 'Rookies' Dairy (新兵日記 / Xin Bing Ri Ji). This drama shows about Taiwan BMT which lasted for 36 days where new recruits go for their Basic Military Training. During the 36 days of training in BMT, Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang is going to transform a group of rookies from oddball civilians to disciplined soldiers.

This drama is super funny because you can find all sorts of funny recruits acting blur or acting funny during the training. I laugh until my stomach pain through out the series (the series is not completed yet though).

Not only funny as I mentioned but this drama also shows how people's feeling changed in the process of their training in BMT. At first those recruits, Corporals and Sergeants do not really like/appreciate how Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang conduct his training for the recruits as he was strict and go against the rule book of training recruits.

But as the times goes by, Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang passion saw by the recruits, Corporals and Sergeants. Together, the recruits even help Second Lieutenant Sun An Bang out when he is in trouble due to some conflict with gangsters due to money lending problem caused by his father.

After the incident, the captain decided to used his traditional method to train up all these recruits before they passed out from BMT.

Are all the recruits able to pass their physical test in BMT? We shall find out in the final episode of Rookies' Diary.

Woodland Point

Woodlands Point

Today as usual, I went for my 5km run in the evening. But something special is that I change the route a little so that I can help my brother buy his dinner at Woodland Point, a place where I used to hang out at during my secondary school days with my classmates.

I remember that place was a place where we hang out almost everyday after school to play lan and Yu-Gi-Oh card game. That's the place we close up our friendship bond with other student in our school as we always hang out at that place to play game. That's the place where I would never ever forget in my life.

Today I went back to that place again, I help my brother to buy his dinner after I completed my 5km run. I took a walk around that place and to my surprise, the place hasn't changed much even though I didn't went there for quite a few years.

The McDonald still there, the Lan shop still there and some random shop still there but the Kopitiam at the second floor has moved away and is now currently empty.

I still remember that we always hang out at the McDonald second floor to play our card games, and in order not to get kick out by the McDonald staff, we bought a drink just for the sake to stay at that place to play our card game. Come to think of it, it's quite funny actually lol...

Then after playing card game, we will go straight down to the Lan shop and play the most popular game during that time which is, counter-strike. The price is $2 - $2.50 per hour if I remember correctly.

Think I will find someday, someday to get my secondary school friends to hang out there again... Well hope I can find some time, as soon as possible :)

Life

Today I feel like talking about life in general. So, basically what is life? Some people might say life is for love, some might say life is money and some would even say that life is the status you have.

Well they are correct because life is yours, so you can choose what you want to be and how you control your life, no one can manipulate you unless you made your life being manipulate.

Why I started this topic of "Life" is because of my friends. My friends around me have grown and lived in their own life some of them are happy with it but some of them are not. So I was curious about why they are happy/unhappy with their life. So I start talking to those who are unhappy with their life, and they stated that they couldn't achieved what they want in terms of academics, money and status.

I understand their feelings (in terms of academic) because I had that feeling during the past when I was studying but as the time goes by the feeling started to fade away, which I do not really know why, probably is because I have achieved what I have expected of myself.

After talking to those who are unhappy with life, I had the feeling that those who are happy with their life are probably the ones who are quite successful in their achievements. But it was quite unexpected after I talked to them as most of them are just living a simple life without much extraordinary achievement.

But they are happy...

So I was quite curious on why they are happy with their life, and they replied to me that living simple is quite good actually because you do not need to handle too much stress and without having your work taking up too much of your personal time where you can spend more time with your family and the love ones.

Each people have different goals in their life I guess, but what this lesson taught me is that sometimes in life you may face failure or success, but all these failure and success eventually came from ourselves. That's because we, ourselves are the ones who set the standard in what we are going to achieve in our life in order to be happy or rather satisfied with it.

Let me give you an example...

Student A is an ace student, who always achieved excellent grades in all of his subject, while Student B is labeled as a below average student, who always failed all his subjects even though he tried to study hard. But one day, when they got back their exam paper, Student A was sad because even though he still getting As in all of his subjects but his total mark dropped by 2% while Student B was delighted because he managed to get a pass in one of his paper but overall he still did quite badly and got retained for a year because of that. So Student A was curious on why Student B was so happy when he know he got retained for a year. Student B replied: "Because I have met my target of getting at least one subject pass at the end of the year examination". Student A wasn't really satisfied with Student B's reply because he find it ridiculous that he can be happy with just that.

So Student A went to look for their homeroom teacher and talk to him about Student B's situation. The teacher smiled at Student A and said this: "I am very happy with Student B's achievement although he required to retain for a year but I can see the drive in him." Student A still don't quite understand on why he is so happy? So the teacher gave student A the answer that he needs, the teacher said that: " Each of us measure our achievement/success in a different manner, some of them want to break their own personal record by achieving better results but others may just want to prove themselves that they can achieve what they want if they worked hard for it. In the end, is your own measurement that counts and not what other thinks. If you truly believe that you have succeed, then you have succeed." Student A got the idea of what it means of achieving the so-called "success" in life, it's all basically in yourselves, the standard that you have set for yourself, which is also known as the

standard of success.

So what I trying to say is that life is yours, you can make your own life complicated or you can just live with a simple life, in the end, you are the one who decide what to do with your life, not others.

Flipped

Synopsis:
When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it's love. Bryce isn't so sure. Beginning that day, and for the next six years, young Bryce (Callan McAuliffe) does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm's length...which isn't easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. Smart, dreamy, independent and willing to stand up for what she believes in, Juli (Madeline Carroll) is different from anyone else he knows and, frankly, it's a little overwhelming. What's a guy supposed to do when a girl tells him his hair smells like watermelon or wants him to sit in a tree for the spectacular view? There's just no telling what Juli will do next, and Bryce is one guy who'd rather be safe than sorry. Though disappointed by Bryce's unwillingness to see things her way, or even to see the things in life she finds most meaningful, Juli continues to give her potential dreamboat the benefit of the doubt. Until those doubts stack up so high that she finally thinks maybe she was wrong about him. It's just about the same time Bryce starts to think maybe he was wrong about her, too. But is he too late? The coming-of-age romantic comedy "Flipped," from director Rob Reiner, takes Bryce and Juli from Grade School to Junior High, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are--and who they are to each other. -- (C) Warner Bros.

This movie is quite nice in the sense that, instead of the guy taking initiative to know the girl, the girl made the first move. With all sorts of negative impact between them, in the end they're still together.... Watch it, it's nice :)

3rd Day of Chinese Rabbit Year!

I met up with my poly cliques at City hall yesterday. At first we want to go for Kbox as wei xiong have the urge to sing but due to the price and the duration, the option was erased. So we decided to walk to Clark Quay for dinner.

After our dinner, we went to a random pub where it sell Singapore Sling Shots, since wei xiong recommended it so we give it a try. I ordered a mild alcoholic drink compared to Roger and Wei Xiong cause I am a newbie :) Wei Xiong order shots! which is the pure thingy and I tried it and it feels like there's fire burning in your throat.

But after all the experience is quite fun as this is the first time that we went to pub together and I did not really expect Roger/Wei Xiong suggest to go pub.

Below is the picture of what we have drank. From left to right: Roger's drink, Wei Xiong drink and mine :)

The sad thing is I have to go to work now :(

Day 2 of Chinese Rabbit Year

Day 2 of Chinese Rabbit Year, my brother and I meet up with our cousins for dinner and KTV session at Causeway Point/ Woodlands Civic Center. We went to Siam Kitchen for our dinner. It was my first time going to Siam Kitchen for dinner and the food was not as bad as I thought. Since it was our first(my brother and I) going out with our cousins (Father's side), so we are a quite quiet in front of them.

After the dinner, we went to KTV at Woodlands Civic Center, located at the 6th floor. I didn't even know that there's a KTV at Woodland Civic Center, so I just blindly follow them. The room is quite alright for the size of 11 people, and we started singing. I sang around 5 to 6 songs if I remember correctly. All of my cousin sang very good, is like singer standard. I was like "WOW, they sang so well".

Well at the end, my brother and I have to leave early since I have work tomorrow. The experience was quite good, much better than I anticipated. So, well this marks my end of my second day of Chinese Rabbit Year!

Last but not least, 新年快樂!

First Day of Chinese New Year

The first day of Chinese New Year is over, at least the event for the day is over, I supposed. Today is quite a tiring day for me because I came back home from work at around 10am ++, then after that, I went to my grandma house for visiting. At that time, my head was really heavy cause I do not have enough sleep. But still I have to endure it cause Chinese New Year is a once in a year thing.

After that my cousins came to my house for Chinese New Year celebration. Well everything is all the same as the previous years for Chinese New Year celebration. Nothing much different.... But still, it is a joyous occasion for every people who celebrate Chinese New Year as this days marks that we are a year older and also a day where all our relatives gets to gather and have a dinner/lunch and a chit chat session.

Also one thing that I find it weird was that I don't really care about the content inside the red packet I received compared to the previous 22 years of Chinese New Year. I don't know why, but I just received it as a token from the elder, that's all. Previously, I care about the money inside :) but now, I just don't have the thrill to open red packet any more. Well I think I getting older, or maybe become stupid hahaha.

Whether I become older or stupid, I don't know. But what I know is that, it's great to have a celebration with family and relatives.

Last but not least...

Well may be a memorable one but it can be quite tiring because tomorrow is the first day of Chinese New Year and I will coming back in the morning. So the first thing that I might do is to sleep... hahaha....

But really no choice man, I will be dead tired once I come back home tomorrow in the morning. Hope I can endure the tiredness if not I might sleep for the whole day.

Tonight I will be having my reunion dinner with my relatives then after that, I will be heading straight to work. This year I will be doing my countdown at my workplace.

Last but not least, Happy Chinese Rabbit Year!

Just for fun!

I did a forum, just for fun and you can find the forum here. Well..hmmm I am not the one who did it lol, I just paste the code to my blog only hahaha. I didn't know that we can put a forum in blogger hahaha and anyway, I did it! :)

No programming language is required for this task thus anyone can do it I guess, it took me 5 min to get this up, fast right?

Although there might be some bugs in it as I still not familiar with forum since I have not done it before I guess lol.

Feel free to look around. Thanks :)

Note: I will place the forum link at the side of the website.

If you want to know how it worked, kindly message me :)

Went out with secondary school friends...

Finally I get to meet my secondary school friends on last Saturday! I have not met some of them for nearly 6 years I guess hahaha and they have totally changed! I was like "Who are you?" or "You changed a lot that I don't even recognize you!". We went for buffet lunch at Sakura, the outlet which is beside Republic Polytechnic. We ate quite a bit but talk crap a lot hahaha, not all are crap actually, I think that's because we didn't meet up for such a long time that we have many things to talked about.

After that we went to Woodlands Waterfront, which I don't even know it's existence until Justin suggested it. That place was pretty nice and comfortable, which I think is a nice place to go for a run or a walk maybe.

Then we went to Causeway point, where TTL needs to go home as he had something on in the evening, so we walk around Causeway point and we suggested to watch a movie which is call Season of the witch.

season_of_the_witch Pictures, Images and Photos
"His faith broken by years of battle as a crusader, Behmen returns to central Europe to find his homeland decimated by the Black Plague. While searching for food and supplies at the Palace at Marburg, Behmen and his trusted companion Felson (Ron Perlman) are apprehended and ordered by the dying Cardinal to deliver a young peasant girl ¬believed to be the witch responsible for the Plague to a remote abbey where her powers can be destroyed. Behmen agrees to the assignment but only if the peasant girl is granted a fair trial. As he and five others set off on this dangerous journey, they realize with mounting dread that the cunning girl is no ordinary human, and that their mission will pit them against an evil that even in these dark times they never could have imagined. "

We went back home after the movie cause some of them lived in Malaysia, and anything later then 6pm, they will have to join the queue for the jam at the causeway. So yea, that's about the small gathering I had planned. Hope to meet them once again. And really, as you grow older, you have lesser time meeting up with your friends as some of them are already working thus it makes it even harder to meet up even for a lunch. Glad that I propose the idea of the gathering if not, gods know when I will be able to meet them again :)

All links worked!

Every section in Ampdreams.blogspot.com are available right now. Feel free to look around on the latest updated links which are "Projects" and "News".

In Projects section, I have put up 4 projects that I have done, which are, Element Destiny, a video of VENews which is done by PlanetKY for Imagine Cup 2009 competition, E-commerce layout picture and my previous website layout picture. I have yet to upload E-commerce website yet as I am still finding a suitable place to upload my file. As for my previous website layout, you can view it at http://james-gaara.blogspot.com (Note: The links on the navigation bar is not working because I have taken down the rest of the webpage due to some technical problem). For VENews, I only have the video for now because Microsoft had taken down popfly website, so I am not able to show you the application of VENews.

But the good news is that in I have created a similar yet a simple version of VENews which is on the News section. It display the past earthquake location and plotted on Google map. This is my first time handling Google map, but I have done it! Although is not a complete VENews as I am still working on the application itself, but feel free to view the Earthquake news in the News Section!

If there are any bug or any problem you faced in my website, feel free to drop me an email. I will do must best to correct the error ASAP :)
Thanks!

Road Block!

Before today, I feel myself as a good, not say best, programmer. But after today, everything changed. I can't even start to type in any single code into the program itself. I was like, "What, is this serious?!". There's no doubt about it :(

This is a serious road block to me because in a few months time, I am going to NUS(Computing) course, which focus heavily on programming skills and usage of English Language. My English Language is already bad in the sense that I still make a lot of Grammatical error, which is like an extremely tough task for me to catch up in university. So I thought I still have programming skills to back me up, but everything turned upside down.

Creating website, writing a program and my English, I think I might be a goner when I enter NUS. That's what I initially thought of. But I asked myself again, "Am I really that weak? Am I going to stop just like that?".

The answer to that is "NO!".

There is no way I am giving up. The reason is simple, because I have the passion in creating new stuff, creating stuff which belongs to me. Also when I think back when I first enrolled into Nanyang Polytechnic studying Multimedia and Info-communication Technology, I started as a computer idiot, not knowing anything about computer stuff.

So you may asked, why I chose this course since I know nuts about what I am going to learn? I choose this course is because I chose it for the sake of choosing. Because during that time after I received my O level results, I was dying to go to polytechnic to study. After scanning through the course available, I choose to do IT stuff, as it is more related to me simply because I use computer more often. In IT sector, there are variety of courses for me to choose from, so I simply pick the location somewhere near my home and the course with the longest name. So pop! I choose Multimedia and Info-communication Technology without knowing what they are providing.

After I went into that course, everything seems fun, especially programming. I don't know about others, but for me, I felt that programming is more like a challenge to me rather then a burden because I like challenge. Every time I solved a problem, I feel like I gaining one step forward into creating a application that's done my me and I felt a sense of satisfactory each time I completed my projects.

So that's why I told myself not to give up no matter what because I strongly feel that if the person has the passion in something that he/she believes in, he/she can definitely do it. Today's incident really shocked me, but in the end, it makes me fired up even more about getting into university to make applications that I can be proud of!

2011!!! The year that I am anticipating for. This year is the year I ORD for my national service and the start of my university life!

Less than 6 months more to go and I am really in high spirit to get to school life again. I understand that university life would be extremely hard compared to polytechnic. But I am ready for it, seriously.

I am going to start revising all my stuff that I learned in polytechnic and new stuff that had been out on the IT world ever since I was serving my NS. I know that these 2 years, many things changes, even programming language. If I didn't keep myself up-to-date for technology stuff, I will ended up losing to those fresh grads from polytechnics or students with strong IT background.

Let's hope that I can survive my remaining NS life and meanwhile using the time to revise for my work :)

Recently, I was hooked onto watching the amazing race! This reality show is one of the best together with the apprentice and survivor. I was amazing how the teams in the race can turned ugly to their own partners. It was really a WOW thing to me because mostly, but not all the couple teams all screwed up with each other by yelling and cursing at each other.

I think amazing race is a place where couple can really know each other well because both of them are under tough situation and stress out on the task given, thus they can truly show their real face to one another.

Well I am still watching the amazing race, and I hope the race will get better and better.

The teams that I really like are, BJ & Tyler from season 9 and the cowboy from season 16
